TVET Curriculum Leadership and Management for TVET Administrators of Mindanao https://bemixconsulting.com/tvet-curriculum-leadership-and-management-for-tvet-administrators-of-mindanao/ Thu, 14 Jun 2018 04:47:57 +0000 http://bemixconsulting.com/?p=585 The two-day training-seminar on “TVET Curriculum Leadership” is the second track of the Capability Building program for TVET Administrators under the auspices and leadership of the Mindanao TVET Association (MinTVET), as part of its Enhancement Capacity series for 2018 and in partnership with the Tech-Voc Schools Assn of the Phils, Inc (TVSA) and the FAPE-Program for Education Assistance Committee (PEAC). The training activity is in response to the need and demand to continuously upgrade the competencies of TVET administrators and lead or senior Trainers of TVET program towards the end that they can ably respond to the changing need of the times.

The current TVET Reforms, which include the institutionalization of the Philippine Qualification Framework (PQF), logically lead to the development of training curricula for the Diploma courses in Level 5 for various qualifications. It is within this context and framework that the five (5) tracks of the TVET Administrators course is being rolled out by MinTVET.

The training-seminar activity was held last January 18-19, 2018 at the El Bajada Hotel, Davao City. It was attended by a total of one hundred twenty (120) participants coming from across the six (6) Regions of Mindanao. Four core competencies were addressed in the training, namely: (1) Lead in curriculum development (2) Manage curriculum development (3) Design and develop TVET Diploma (Level 5) curriculum, and (4) Link and partner with industries for curriculum development. Resource persons and experts were invited to provide the relevant knowledge and skills that participants can gain from the training.

A workshop on designing and developing the TVET Diploma (Level 5) Curriculum was done with the guidance of the resource person, where the participants were divided into 4 cluster of groups to work on sample competencies that could be included in the level 5 qualification. These were: (1) Develop curriculum (2) Facilitate training and learning environment (3) Link and Partner with Industries for Curriculum Development and (4)

On the last day of the training, participants visited The Royal Mandaya Hotel of Davao City as part of the Module in industry linkages and partnership for curriculum development. Participants experienced observations on skills demonstration on hotel bed making while another group toured the hotel for inspection/ocular of facilities. An opportunity to listen and talk with the Human Resource Officer was also provided to guide participants on prospective industry partnership.

The training event was handled and managed by beMix Consultancy for the Mindanao TVET Association, Inc.

Education Institutions, and Senior High School – TVL tracks, across the 6 administrative regions of
Mindanao, gathered in Davao City to forge a Memorandum of Agreement. This historic event
paved the way for the establishment of a Credit Unit Transfer System that will ease the movement
of students and graduates of the PQF Level 5 Diploma Programs to higher education.

In partnership and joint collaboration, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA) of Region XI (Davao Region), the Mindanao Technical-Vocational Association
(MinTVET), spearheaded the initiative for the benefit of TVET Institutions of Mindanao. The
signatory-Institutions and other participants, completed the training and workshops to deepen their
understanding and skills in the formulation of the Diploma program for the Technician and
Technologist levels. The signatories likewise completed the implementing policies and guidelines
for the credit unit transfer system.

The two (2) training-workshop events were both organized by MinTVET and managed by beMix
Consultancy group, the consultant and event specialist for MinTVET.
